Hurricane Tips

  1. Be safe. Listen to the authorities for evacuation notices and other warnings.
  2. Gather important documents and information together and place in a waterproof bag.
  3. Let your friends and family know where you are going to be. Check in with them to let them know that you are safe and where you are.
  4. Document your house. Take photos and/or video of your belongings. You can also fill out our inventory checklist to track all your belongings.
  5. Please check and secure all openings to the house (i.e windows. doors, etc.).
  6. Here is a list of essentials that you need to have on hand. It is a good idea to have a 7 day supply of the following:
    1. Bottled Water -typically one gallon of water per person per day
    2. Canned food- Non perishable
    3. Non-electric can opener
    4. Paper products- plates-cups- utensils
    5. Gas/charcoal grill
    6. Lighter or matches
    7. Batteries
    8. Flashlights
    9. Radio- This will keep you informed with information during and after the storm
    10. Fill autos with gas- Also store gas if possible, there could be long lines or closed stations
    11. First aid kit
    12. Medications- Needed prescriptions
    13. Cash- Banks and ATMs could be inoperable. Also local businesses may not accept credit
    14. Tarps and installation materials- For after the storm. (Supplies could be limited)
    15. Hygiene products
    16. Cleaning supplies
    17. Clothing and Bedding- Change of clothing, blankets, pillows, sheets
